Entrepreneur Category

These immigrants are experienced business people who wish to buy or establish a business in which they will have an active managerial role. The business must create jobs for one or more Canadians and must make a significant contribution to our economy. This category includes business people who are experienced in managing small to medium-sized enterprises.

The entrepreneur category is for those who wish to actively manage a business in Canada.

Applicants must intend and be able to establish, purchase or substantially invest in a business in Canada.The following criteria must be met:

The business must make a significant contribution to the economy. The business must create or continue one or more jobs in Canada over and above the jobs created for the entrepreneur and the entrepreneur's dependants.

The entrepreneur must provide active, ongoing participation in the management of the business. The entrepreneur must report to an immigration officer on a regular basis.

Entrepreneurs and their dependants are admitted on the condition that the entrepreneur establish a business that meets the above requirements within two years of landing in Canada. Progress is monitored and the entrepreneurs are counseled regarding their compliance with the terms and conditions. Failure to comply could lead to removal proceedings. Once the business is established, the condition is removed.
